High School Graduation Requirements

University Preparatory Academy’s graduation requirements, subject to annual review and revision by the UPA Board of Directors, meet or exceed the University of California “a-g” course requirements. The requirements are: 250 Credits, completion of the above coursework and “a- g” requirements with a grade of C- or higher, pass a minimum of two AP college classes, successfully complete a minimum of 30 hours each year of service learning or community service projects, and receive certification of technology proficiency. Course requirements are also shown in the chart below.

Middle School Promotion Requirements

In order to ensure student success in high school, all 8th grade students will be considered for promotion to the 9th grade based on the following criteria:

  • Meet or Exceed Standards on the SBAC in Language Arts and Math
  • Passing UPA core classes with a grade of C- or higher
  • Growth on NWEA or equivalent test

As per UPA Board Policy, a committee of teachers and administration will assess any student not meeting these requirements for promotion to the ninth grade on an individual basis.
